goodbye redford

In no particular order, my friends and I saw a selection of wild, weird, horrible, awesome, and beautiful little films at Sundance this year. It's the final year that the iconic festival is being held in Park City, UT. This gem of an experience will find its way migrating to Boulder, CO next year, where the city will have its chance to make this festival continue to shine.

My 2026 Sundance Film Festival Reviews:

  • Josephine: Gripping. The first fifteen minutes of the film knocks you on your ass. Then proceeds to make it hard for you to ever get back up. A standout star of the festival for me.

  • I Want Your Sex: Gregg Araki is one of my favorite directors. He's just so weird and fun. And his movies are the same. The Dom/Sub dynamic in this film was believable and very erotic.

  • Ha-Chan, Shake Your Beauty: Jesus Christ, what a movie. It just makes you feel everything. Grief, Joy, Happiness, Awe… I think this was one of the best films at the festival bar none.

  • Saccharine: Great premise. Some truly excellent scenes, mixed with solid directing done by what you can tell is a new, emerging voice in filmmaking (Natalie Erika James). But there was something missing? Also, the ending was a bit underdeveloped and honestly kinda rushed.

  • Rock Springs: Total stinker. Had a few walk-outs. What the hell was happening half the time? The story made you feel like it wanted to do so much more. There was no structure or real stakes and it felt like there was no power given to any of the decisions the characters made.

  • Wicker: Very cute and whimsical. And Olivia Coleman is in it. Need I say more?

Diary Entry - Sat, Jan 24th

At 11am on the third day of the festival, I'm driving back on the highway to the AirBnB and a black disc comes flying at me while I'm pushing 75. It's a tire. Someone's tire has almost hit me. Like a heat-seeking missile, the tire zoomed right past me while I swerved to avoid it.

Crisis averted. What a start to my day…
